Frozen in Mind

Lone nights when I'm sinking in icy cold rays
drinking in the sights of slow, deaden days,
shrouded, I shy away from the sun's gaze
and shrink into shadows. Here, I shall stay.

Never saying a prayer, nor spinning a tale
I crouch as I'm pelted by God's stones of hail.
The heavens point fingers and laugh when I fail,
I'm an inmate, encased in a heart old and frail.

Each beat pumps the blood which pays off my bail,
a lifetime I'm locked in this mind of a jail.

With a swish and a flick, I watch worlds collapse,
the past and future sutured in a time-lapse.
We're all seated and snuggled on Karma's cold lap
while she spins her wide web, within which we're trapped.

The whole game was staged, I never asked to be born
nor to turn pages in life's long book of lore.
But I'd wager that most of us get what we pay for
since there's no ticket price to step through life's door.

So we find ourselves stumbling, tumbling towards
An unquestioning destiny, tied to us with cords
And we cannot afford to protest anymore
since there's no-one but us on both sides of the war.
